food for thought

Farmington Gardens here in the Portland/Beaverton area has been kind enough to allow me to be a part of their team!!!  No way will I be able to relay the amount of kindness and encouragement Linda and Roberta have given me in this post-but, they each know how much I love them, and how blessed we are to have them as friends.

Not only will this be the place where a fundraiser for the Ameena Project & More Than Sport will take place in early 2014, but, later this month my wife Rhonda and I will be kicking off our first cooking/nutrition class -- Food for Thought.

Farmington Gardens has been holding Garden to Table cooking classes all summer and they have taken off!  Roberta has been packing the teaching/cooking facility located at the nursery.  It's cool to see Farmington Gardens incorporate solid nutrition classes for the community here in Portland. Both Rhonda and I are excited to share a few of the staple meals we use in my training, family, and life.  The first Food for Thought class will be September 21st, and you can find out all the details here.

Topics  will include a brief introduction of us, our background describing the role of nutrition in my life as an athlete, and for our family, and....food!! We will demonstrate how to prepare specific meals used from garden to table that help power me through a big training week. I'll keep you updated as we draw closer to the first class in our Food for Thought series.

This post will be quick so a few more thoughts.....

Fatigue makes cowards of us all.

One month post Ultraman Canada, and I still am being smart about training. Actually...my coach Chris is being smart for me. Constructing a approach that won't be too different from my build into Canada things are moving.

The up and down mentally and physcially after Canada was almost funny.

The week following I felt ready to hit it again. Seriously, that weekend.

Of course I didn't and the next week I realized why as my body released the fatigue and the high drifted. Week three..."Uuhhhhh....who keeps putting Thorazine in my coffee???"  Seems like the re-bound always surprises, and I attempt to talk my way out, around, & through it.  Post race, every time--I underestimate the recovery.

Take home point--Relax and wait. Yes, you'll come around. No you won't loose too much fitness. Plus-sleeping in til....7?
Awesome.

***I promised to answer any questions about my build, strategy, ideas....whatever, leading into UM Canada...so, if you have any fire away.

Found out this week I will be blessed with the opportunity to join with a great company. Polar.

For anyone who ever laced up a running shoe, clipped into a bike, or went for hike, and wanted to know what's going on under the skin--Polar is usually there. For 30 years creating the most innovative heart rate monitors in the world, Polar's objective has been to be the best.

The best quality, the best support, the best product. They have not failed.

I'm excited to represent them this November in Hawaii, and will do my best to make Polar proud.

Thanks you Polar for this amazing opportunity.
